Encouragement and Guidance for Those Parenting Their Children’s Children

I don’t know if there has ever been another time in this country when we have witnessed such a pandemic-like increase in the number of grandparents being thrust into the roles of parenting their own grandchildren. Many believe this phenomenon is likely to continue for some time. ElderQuest Ministries is committed to raising awareness among the churches of our nation, in particular, about the realities of this burgeoning demographic—one that is largely invisible or ignored in most congregations.

There are many reasons behind this rapidly growing phenomenon, but the most significant reasons, according to Generations United and other research, is related to the opioid epidemic among young adults. I believe God has called me to advocate for this group of grandparents in the local church. That’s why I re-established ElderQuest Ministries—to encourage and help church leaders identify and acknowledge this overlooked group of grandparents in our midst, and to help them understand how best to engage and support this valuable segment of the body of Christ.
